About

Teagasc, the Agriculture and Food Development Authority, is Ireland’s national body integrating research, advisory, and training services to the agriculture and food industry, as well as rural communities. The Teagasc mission is to support science-based innovation in the agri-food sector and wider bio-economy that will underpin profitability, competitiveness, and sustainability. This is achieved through the close coupling of research and knowledge transfer in four research programme areas:

  • Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation
  • Crops, Environment and Land Use
  • Food
  • Rural Economy and Development

The Teagasc Open Data Platform is designed to make data generated primarily through our research available for reuse and redistribution. By providing open access to these datasets, we aim to enhance transparency, foster research innovation, and contribute to informed decision-making across agricultural and rural sectors.

The platform is built on the principles of FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). Data outputs are not only openly available but also well-described, structured, and interoperable. This commitment strengthens collaboration, supports reproducibility in science, and aligns with Ireland’s Open Data Strategy, promoting the use of data for economic, social, and environmental benefits.
